Disclosure: we make Money Tracker, so we are not neutral. To keep this fair, every fact about Rocket Money comes from its own website, help center, or App Store listing, linked inline and checked on October 13, 2026. We say where Rocket Money is the better choice, and we report Money Tracker's App Store privacy label exactly as Apple shows it.

The short answer

Rocket Money is built to save you money on the bills you already pay: its team can cancel subscriptions for you and negotiate bills down, and it has a free tier plus Android and web access. If that hands-on help is what you want, Money Tracker doesn't replace it. Money Tracker suits people who want to find and track their subscriptions and budget without ads, keep transactions on their iPhone rather than in a company's cloud, and get full budgeting on a free plan.

About our label: Money Tracker's list is no shorter than most cloud apps', so here is what our servers actually hold. If you turn on bank sync, they keep an encrypted token that connects your bank, which bank it is, and a random ID for your install; new transactions pass through to your phone without being stored. They also hold your subscription status, a notification token if you turn on reminders, and your email only if you contact support. The privacy policy lists every processor.

The real differences

Subscriptions: found vs cancelled for you

Both apps find recurring charges for you. Rocket Money goes a step further: with Premium, its team can cancel many subscriptions for you, and it offers to negotiate bills in exchange for 35% to 60% of the first year's savings (Premium+ drops that fee). Money Tracker detects subscriptions, reminds you before bills are due, and shows them in your cash-flow forecast, but cancelling is up to you.

Ads and where your data lives

Rocket Money's App Store listing says the app contains advertising, and its label lists purchase history and payment info as used for third-party advertising. Its security page says it doesn't accept payment for your personal or financial data. Money Tracker has no ads and keeps transactions in an encrypted database on your iPhone, with no account.

What's free

Rocket Money's free tier includes subscription and bill tracking, transaction history, and budgeting with two custom categories; unlimited budgets, net worth, goals, and CSV export are Premium features. Money Tracker's Free plan includes unlimited manual accounts, budgets, reports, net worth, goals, and CSV import and export; what you pay for is bank sync, at $24.99 a year on Sync (4 bank connections) or $39.99 on Pro (8), after a 7-day trial. Which should you choose?

Choose Rocket Money if:

  • You want someone to cancel subscriptions or negotiate bills for you.
  • You want a free tier that tracks subscriptions and bills from your linked accounts, and ads don't bother you.
  • You want the web on Premium.
  • You want credit score monitoring in the same app.

Choose Money Tracker if:

  • You want an app with no ads and your transactions stored on your iPhone.
  • You track by hand and want unlimited budgets, goals, and CSV export for free.
  • You want budgeting tools beyond subscriptions: a payday cash-flow forecast, receipt scanning, Siri logging, Split the Tab, and an on-device Assistant for questions about your money.

How to switch from Rocket Money to Money Tracker

  1. In the Rocket Money app, open the Transactions tab, tap the menu in the upper right, choose CSV Download, set any filters, and tap Export. Rocket Money emails you a download link that opens on a computer, not a phone, per its help center. Export is listed as a Premium feature.
  2. Download the file on your computer, then AirDrop it or save it to iCloud Drive so it reaches your iPhone.
  3. Install Money Tracker on your phone. You don't need an account, and CSV import is on the Free plan.
  4. Save the CSV to the Files app (or AirDrop it to your phone), then in Money Tracker open Settings, tap Import Data, and choose the file.
  5. Pick the account the rows belong to, or let the importer read an Account column and match each name to one of your accounts. Date, amount, and description columns are detected automatically, and you can change any column before importing. A file with separate money-out and money-in columns works too: map them to debit and credit.
  6. Check the preview. Money Tracker treats negative amounts as spending; if your file lists spending as positive numbers, map the amount column to Amount (positive = spending).
  7. Import. A category that matches one of yours is applied directly, and the rest are categorized on your iPhone. Re-importing the same file is safe: rows already imported are skipped, and you can revert an import if something looks wrong.

Budgets and goals don't come across in a CSV. Money Tracker finds recurring charges in your imported history, so your subscriptions list rebuilds itself.

Frequently asked questions

Can Money Tracker cancel my subscriptions?

No. It finds recurring charges and reminds you before they renew, but you cancel them yourself. If you want a service to do it, Rocket Money offers that with Premium.

Is Money Tracker free like Rocket Money?

Both have free plans. Rocket Money's tracks subscriptions and bills from your linked accounts, with budgets limited to two custom categories. Money Tracker's is manual tracking with no limits on budgets or categories; bank sync is paid.

Does Money Tracker show ads?

No. Money Tracker has no ads, and your financial data is never sold.

How we checked
