Yearly cost is the price times charges per year: 52 for weekly, 12 for monthly, 4 for quarterly, 1 for yearly. Per month is the yearly total divided by 12; per day divides it by 365.

How the subscription cost calculator works

Each subscription is converted to a yearly cost: price × charges per year, using 52 for weekly, 12 for monthly, 4 for quarterly, and 1 for yearly. The yearly costs are added up, then divided by 12 for the monthly figure and by 365 for the daily one.

A year is 52 weeks and one day (two in a leap year), so a weekly charge occasionally bills 53 times in a calendar year. The calculator uses 52.

Tick a subscription in the results to see what canceling it would save, both per year and per month, and what the rest would cost.

Worked example

The calculator starts with five example subscriptions. Their prices are placeholders, not quotes:

  • Gym: $40.00 monthly × 12 = $480.00 a year
  • Streaming service: $15.99 monthly × 12 = $191.88 a year
  • Music: $11.99 monthly × 12 = $143.88 a year
  • Software license: $99.00 yearly × 1 = $99.00 a year
  • Cloud storage: $2.99 monthly × 12 = $35.88 a year

Together that is $950.64 a year, or $950.64 ÷ 12 = $79.22 a month and $950.64 ÷ 365 = $2.60 a day. Canceling the gym alone would save $480.00 a year, bringing the rest down to $39.22 a month.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out the yearly cost of a subscription?

Multiply the price by how many times you are charged in a year: 52 for weekly, 12 for monthly, 4 for quarterly, and 1 for yearly. A $9.99 monthly plan costs $9.99 × 12 = $119.88 a year.

How do I convert a weekly price to monthly?

Multiply by 52 and divide by 12, which is about 4.33 weeks per month. A $10 weekly charge is $520 a year, or about $43.33 a month. Multiplying by 4 undercounts it.

Is an annual plan cheaper than paying monthly?

Compare the monthly price × 12 with the annual price. If a service costs $10 a month or $100 a year, the annual plan saves $120 − $100 = $20, but only if you would have kept it for the whole year.

How do I find all my subscriptions?

Look through two or three months of bank and credit card statements for charges that repeat, and check the subscriptions list in your phone's app store account. Yearly charges are the easiest to miss, so look back a full year if you can.
